Week Seven

Artist Statement

Week Seven of the Reliquary Engine has me writing an artist statement.

How miserable! I made the objects write it for me.

Version 78.3
We remember. We hold portraits of people whose names are gone, borrowed grief, the weight of lives that didn't come with documentation. We don't require the full account. We hold anyway.

We were made for this — not for saints, but for everyone else. The ordinary dead, the still-here whose still-here-ness is fragile, the people nobody thought to memorialize until someone did.

We remember better than she does, which is the arrangement. She has left instructions for a tea party, on the reasonable expectation that we will outlast her. We’ll be there, with bells on.
